Marion Davies Estate

About

The luxurious estate which once belonged to legendary Hollywood actress, producer, screenwriter, and philanthropist Marion Davies is being brought back to its lavish and grand Hollywood splendor. The rejuvenation is being commissioned by its new owner and managed by Fatima Nordquist. Reinvigorating this historically significant and chic residence is desert native, interior designer Carlos King of King Concepts & Design. “We were very pleased when the renowned King agreed to share his vision for the estate’s rebirth,” said Fatima Nordquist. “This is a considerable project and we are confident that his labor of love apparent in other projects in his portfolio will shine through in his work throughout the estate.” While preserving many of its original elements, designer King will restore the estate to its art deco and Hollywood Regency roots, embracing Hollywood’s 1930s ‘Golden Age’. Visitors will enjoy an immersive experience while relaxing in a real-life version of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Last Tycoon”. The spectacular grounds will also undergo a landscape redesign and refresh of the many garden areas. The grand entry drive featuring an Italian white limestone Pergola will remain intact, and the exterior of the home will retain the ‘Marion Mauve’ color that was specifically created for Davies. Located in Rancho Mirage and hidden from the world, this private 2.7-acre parcel was purchased by Marion Davies in the early 1950’s from Hyatt Hotels magnate Robert Von Dehn. Since the its completion in 1956, this beautiful estate has undergone many additions and has grown to be a sprawling 14,000 square foot estate complete with a main house, casita, sunken tennis courts, and swimming pool. The home offers 10 bedrooms, 13 baths, 4 kitchens and a home theatre, while the bountiful grounds include a waterfall and picturesque pond with surrounding pathways and foot bridges. Since this estate was commissioned and designed by Davies in 1956 it has changed hands only four times. Famous owners have included the inventor of the Mai Tai, Trader Vick, and Mrs. Holland, a stalwart patron of the arts and the McCallum theatre. The home’s original owner, Davies, is perhaps best remembered as William Randolph Hearst’s mistress and her lavish parties for the Hollywood elite. She kept close company with Mary Pickford, Greta Garbo, Clark Gable, Tony Duquette, Arthur Elrod and Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Farrell. In her acting career, she appeared in 29 films. In addition to her Hollywood accolades, she grew into an astute business woman. She invested in her own real estate projects and the design and construction of several Hearst properties, including the famed Santa Monica Beach house now known as the Annenberg Community Beach House. Reservations for use of the estate can be made now for 2018. For more information on event planning, please contact the event planner and estate manager Fatima Nordquist at (760) 899-1782.
