Palm Desert Rotary

Rotary is an organization of successful professionals. Team building, fundraising, public speaking, planning, organization, and communication are just a sampling of the leadership skills that club members can exercise and enhance. Being a Rotary leader provides further experience in learning how to motivate, inspire, and guide others. Our club was founded in 1948, 25 years before Palm Desert became a city. Our history is one of getting things done in the area of service, and we are proud to count among our many accomplishments a key role in the establishment of other fine service organizations in our community, such as Boy Scouts, Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Shelter From the Storm, Desert Arc, Safe House in the Desert and others. Our club has a very strong orientation for assisting youth, and has been the largest private donor of scholarships to Palm Desert High School for the past 25 years. Additionally we support youth leadership training (RYLA and PRYDE), music and speech contests, and in-school Rotary activities through EarlyAct, InterAct and RotarAct clubs. Currently our club numbers 80 members from all walks of life, each sharing Rotary’s time-honored motto: “Service Above Self.” Lately, we have been active in the abatement of Food Insecurity, with projects which generate support for FIND Food Bank, Galilee Center, FISH Food Bank, Martha’s Village, Well in the Desert and Fish Food Bank. We have partnered with other clubs to provide water filters in trailer parks. Internationally we are involved in water, sanitation, school, and food projects in Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, Philippines, Uganda, Guatemala and many other countries. We are a strong supporter of the Polio Plus campaign, wherein Rotary is close to completing its drive to eradicate this horrible disease from all countries on Earth. Most recently, we are leading a campaign to address the needs of 45,000 people living in squalor in East Coachella Valley. This is the Southern California Desert Rotary Health Initiative, now supported by many clubs in our district and several others from districts in USA and internationally. Areas of attention include medical, water and sanitation, inadequate education and ongoing hunger. Through partnerships within the worldwide Rotary family and in concert with other community organizations which share our vision, we are proud to be addressing these deplorable conditions. Palm Desert Rotary engages its members and friends in service in a wide variety of projects which make communities better and change lives.
