Swim 4 Gio Foundation
About
The Swim for Gio Foundation was created to spread awareness for drowning prevention after our family lost our son Giovanni in a drowning accident. We offer scholarships to provide survival swim lessons, fencing around pools, and provide free CPR classes. It is our mission to serve our community and help prevent drowning related deaths and accidents so that no more children or families have to suffer. On October 9, 2014 our son was involved in a drowning in our own backyard. While doing chores in the house, it only took a minute for our curious toddler Giovanni to make his way to the pool. After being pulled out from the pool we performed CPR until the paramedics took him to a local hospital. Once stabilized, he was flown to the nearest children’s hospital where he stayed for 35 days before passing away. Losing our son has been the most horrific tragedy we have and will ever encounter in our lifetime. One of the hardest things to live with is the fact that his drowning could have been prevented. The back door being left slightly open was a pure accident; however had there been a fence between the door and pool our sweet little boy would still be here enjoying life. At the time of his passing, we were already expecting a little girl. We spent months grieving and while we continue to grieve every day, once our little girl was brought into this world we knew there was more to life and we needed to make an impact with our loss. For this reason, we created the Swim for Gio Foundation in honor of our son and to help prevent drowning related accidents and deaths. We have partnered with a local pool fencing company and an ISR swim instructor to help ensure all children are as safe as possible.
