Food Now’s Response to COVID-19 Food Now is the largest food pantry in the Coachella Valley and, as such, defined as an “essential business” (Executive Order N-33-20). During this time of uncertainty and crisis we want to make sure our clients and our community know we will continue to offer weekly supplemental food assistance for households and individuals living in and around the western part of the Coachella Valley. Closing is not an option Food Now has received hundreds of calls from the community, and elected officials wanting to make sure we remain open during the Corona Virus Epidemic. As a USDA recipient organization and a Feeding America partner agency, we will always remain open. Whether it be natural disaster, economic downturn or pandemic, we will remain open to make sure healthy and nutritious foods remain accessible and available at no cost to vulnerable populations who otherwise might not be able to afford to eat. Previous Next The safety of our staff, volunteers and clients are of the utmost importance. To protect all parties, we have changed our method for food distribution. We now offer “drive through” food distribution which eliminates or severely limits contact between client and staff. In addition, we require all staff to wear personal protective equipment. We also adhere to local, state and federal mandates as they relate to the number of people in one building (10) and social distancing (6′ separation).
